Reality and Existence

I want to meet you at the intersection of reality and existence.

Reality is immutable things. Think of pi or the amplituhedron.

Existence is the universe of three dimensions and time. A trillion spinning galaxies expanding ever faster into the void.

Where do reality and existence meet?

According to string theory, right here. All of spacetime is a hologram, which is projected from a two-dimensional surface - the boundary of the universe.

And where is this cosmic boundary?

If we look outward, we face the problem of spacetime's curvature. There are two possibilities - and neither has a boundary:

It is possible that space exists as a sphere, which is how we visualize the universe in popular imagination. We have no observational evidence for this. But the mind feels far more comfortable with it than with its alternative - which is that space is exceedingly flat. That's the universe we actually observe.

If space really and truly >is< flat, then it expands forever - and there are forever worlds of every possible configuration of atoms, including forever worlds of you and me. It also means, matter and energy open into infinity!

Will we let cosmology convince us that space extends far, far beyond the visual horizon, into the forever realms, where infinity holds all possible variations of our being (and nonbeing)?

Infinity places each of us at the intersection of reality and existence.

There is another cosmic boundary. The very small. The smaller the photon, the greater the energy. At a very compact size, the energy of a photon becomes so great that spacetime curls around it - and it exits our universe through a tiny black hole.

At that energy boundary of the universe, spacetime becomes pixelated, granular, quantized - arranged in discrete pieces suspended in 5-space.

Is this the boundary surface from where cosmic strings vibrating in ten dimensions project the volume of the universe? At this ultimate magnitude of smallness, quantum effects come into play. It is here that existence blurs into the wave function containing the reality of all possible universes.

We meet in the awareness of this intersection of the real, which is infinite, and the particular, which is you, the unearned beauty of consciousness, conscious of the boundary we occupy between now and forever.

Hello Sir. Though communicating via such an impersonal mode, I still can't help a certain nervousness at reaching out to one who has been such a huge influence for me. Your novels the Dragon and the Unicorn and Lost legends of Earth move me to this day. And now, at age 45, I've decided to try to create my own fictional universes. the first novel attempt has been gestating 3 years now. This work is lonely, demanding, thankless, and damned difficult!! But I will not cease until something is completed.

That said, I don't seek advice from you. Only your blessing. And perhaps at the quantum level you can pass along a portion of your talent, vision, and discipline to my brain along with it. You are forever one of my faves. And this piece you wrote here is just what I'd expect you to say...

Just wondering though, have you ever read the Kybalion? And if so, what did you think of it? if you haven't, could you check it out and let me know your thoughts about it sometime? I have been forming a concept which is a patchwork made up of bits and peices of things that seem to hint at the deeper levels to reality... conversations with God, the four agreements, the kybalion, a new earth...the quantum and the lotus to name a few titles.

the Infinite, which I think of as God, the operating system of the universe, the Force, or IAM; is a consciousness so vast, so dense and unchanging that, it literally dreams our reality into existence. I suspect that all the creative endeavors of mankind or any derivative intelligence possible are but subconscious, microscopic mimicry of the All In All at its Work.

Maybe.

I wasn't aware of "The Kybalion" until now. The Hermetic principle it expounds, "As above, so below," does very much echo the Holographic Principle in cosmology. And I intend to take a closer look at this esoteric book. Thanks! The deeper levels to reality you're piecing together take us beyond our biology, into inexplicable nature. Ideal territory for a fiction writer! Keep me apprised of developments with your first novel. The work is difficult, I think because the human brain has only been writing a short time in evolutionary terms. It's a mysterious art, using spelling to spellbind.

Hello, I was surprised to find this blog as you may happen upon this comment one day. I wanted to express my appreciation for your Dominions of Irth series. By far, some of the most comprehensive books, sharing many of my personal ideas on energy, stones and the existence of life. I have passed these books on to friends to read, and always own a copy of the series myself. I don’t feel these are noticed enough for their unique depictions of what could explain so much of human nature on this realm. Thank you.

Your sympathetic reading of my dark fantasy series, The Dominions of Irth, has moved me with the renewed conviction that our 26 letters are indeed magical charms! Arranged in charming ways, they can break the spell of isolation and creatively join heartminds. Thank you for meeting me on the Dark Shore and confirming this!

As a writer, I occasionally get this as an interview question: “What book have you reread the most times?” And even though I’m in the crime/mystery (and paranormal) genre, the answer is Radix, which I will probably read again.
Some years back, Scientific American devoted an issue to multiverse theory, offering, l believe, four main parallel-universe scenarios. A fifth possibility, given two short sentences, postulated a static universe for every possible arrangement of particles, hence no time, no motion. I was struck at the time by the question not asked: Then what moves?
Imagine the multiverse as a flipbook series of 3-dimensional stills. A man sits in a room at a table, a bottle in front of him. In one sequence, he drinks; off on one of an enormous number of tangents, he hurls the bottle at the wall. What moves? Consciousness, following a sequence. What determines a logical sequence? Who knows . . .
Just a thought experiment, really.
I recently posted a short piece called What Does Consciousness Have to Do with Fiction? I would be pleased if you commented. https://tinyurl.com/WhatDoes
