Thirteen billion years ago, billows of hydrogen clouds filled the universe. You were there. Laplace's demon traces back every hydrogen atom in your body to those cosmic cumuli. Let's keep it simple and assume we're just atoms and the void. Atoms self-organized over billions of years - into you. And what do you know? Astounding things! The volume of the universe - with its two trillion visible galaxies - is a hologram! Those two trillion galaxies began as pure energy squeezed into a point smaller than an atom! How am I information? Are all of mine, and everyone else's, experiences recorded "somewhere?" Which other blog entries address this idea about information?
BTW, your compassion in your science fiction novels is great.
"It from bit," quoth physicist John Wheeler. The "it" of the phenomenal world consists of "bits" - information. This view is supported by the Holographic Principle, worth exploring if only to learn about the astounding place where our information - our experience - is recorded.
We suffer together the mystery of existence, and - yes! - science fiction is a great vehicle for carrying that compassion from our minds to our hearts.
